This mom's open letter to Miley Cyrus is going viral on Facebook:
An open letter to Miss Miley Cyrus:
Let's preface this with a fact: I'm old. Old enough, yes, to be your mother. That being said, I'd also like to cite my children as references to the fact that, when it comes to artistry, my age falls by the wayside.
I had an interesting occurrence on my way home from work yesterday. I heard Wrecking Ball on the radio and it was the first time I listened to it unadulterated by visual input.
It's a beautiful song. I know you didn't write it but the emotion in your voice was amazing. .. it conveyed it all. You have wonderful depth, range and you are a powerhouse with which to be reckoned .
My point is this: everything i just said above is negated by the vision of you swinging on a piece of demolition equipment. I don't know who advised you on your choice of artistic expression but they were dead wrong in this piece. You had already, perfectly, artistically expressed yourself with your voice. .. the message needed nothing more.
I'm all for expression.
You want to run naked--go right ahead.
You want to lick hammers--absolutely... go for it.
But if you did all that to show how much you hurt, it had the exact opposite effect. Nobody cares about the words or emotions when they are gawking at the obsurdity of what is on the screen.
Your voice is art. Never forget that.
