Four people were inside when a blaze broke out at 516 Haight Street in the Town of Poughkeepsie Wednesday night. In an amazing act of bravery, 17 year old Rayshawn Knight, his mother Shirley Lawson, and two passers-by who weren't identified helped rescue the residents.
It happened shortly before 9pm Wednesday, Rayshawn was walking home when he saw sparks coming from the house. As he got closer, flames exploded from the building and he called 911. His mom, a neighbor, also rushed out of her home to help those still inside.
The Arlington and Town of Poughkeepsie fire departments were quickly on the scene to extinguish the fire. Eventually three people were pulled from the blaze thanks to the efforts of these four heroes.
