When I heard it was National Hot Dog Day today, I became very excited for this opportunity to share with you memories of my very first job at Walters Hot Dog! I was hired to work at a landmark in my community in Mamaroneck, NY that has b
een around since 1919 founded by the Warrington family. I started at 14 and worked there through college! The hot dog recipe was made exclusively for Walters by Boars Head, the soft and fresh rolls by Sunshine Bakery and we made the mustard using the secret family recipe! Walters staff made the ice cream and italian ice (which I was promoted to do....meant I was movin' up)! We were proud of our role at this family establishment, not to mention it was in a cool location, right across the street from my high school!
I made a lot of friends while working here, one who has been a dear friend of mine for the past 33 years and gave me my nickname, "Betty" (that's another blog)!
I'm lucky I have this memory, all based around a hot dog. There are many Westchesterites that have migrated here to the Hudson Valley who will agree that Walters is THE BEST! So....HAPPY NATIONAL HOT DOG DAY! (www.waltershotdogs.com)
